Train's on Time

© Richard Goldman, 2007

Off to see my baby -- been more than quite a while
She's got a certain savoir-faire, a certain kind of style
Planes have all been grounded, and the traffic jam's a mile
But I'll make it if the train's on time

Gonna see my baby -- I can't wait another week
Throw my arms around her -- there'll be no need to speak
I could tell you more but I'm afraid the news might leak
And I'll make it if the train's on time

Favorite mode of transit --bet you'll never guess
Takes me anywhere I want to get to, more or less
Bring me to the woman who can fill this emptiness
I'm just a mess -- I confess

Gotta see my baby -- I'm a man who's in his prime
You know what I'm talking 'bout -- it isn't any crime
I'd let her know I'm coming, but I haven't got a quarter
Still I'll make it if the train's on time
[inflation's so cruel]

Favorite way to travel -- anybody's guess
Something that'll get me where I'm going -- nothing less
Get me to the lady who can bring me happiness
Without her I'm less, I confess

One foot past the other would take well beyond a year
Floatin' on a boat, no, I don't even wanna hear
Engineer please tell me that the tracks ahead are clear
'cause I'll make it if the train's on time
Yes, I'll make it if the train's on time
