Temperature Rising

© Richard Goldman, 2007

Sun's gonna rise, blue return to skies
Raindrops once again are gonna fall
Smoke on the horizon, isn't too surprisin'
Gather 'round the campfire, one and all

Another damned eruption, forgive the interruption
Temperature is rising in the East
Planet running hot & cold, too damned fast but not yet old
Skeletons & feathers, reminders of the feast

Apocalyptic vision, leaders' indecision
Candor's no commodity to sell
Water down the message, herald in the ice age
Victims of some darker corporate spell

Another damned eruption, forgive the interruption
Temperature is rising 'cross the land
Planet running hot & cold, too damned fast but not yet old
Doesn't take a wise man to fully understand

One more immaculate deception
Balances and checks fall to the side
Redirect the current misconception
Or roll the dice -- and let the planet ride

Bioluminescent, strangely effervescent
Reminiscent of some master plan
Another generation, a more enlightened nation
Pass the inspiration while you can

One more damned eruption, forgive the interruption
Temperature is rising in the West
Planet still runs hot & cold, too damned fast but not yet old
Praying we can slow things down, and help our children pass the test
